BIOSKETCH

Cristiano Alessandro holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in computer engineering (University of Catania and Polytechnic University of Milan), and a PhD in Computational Neuroscience (University of Zurich). He has always channeled his expertise in the study of the neural control of movement, by performing more than 10 years of research abroad on this topic at the University of Zurich, ETH Zurich and Northwestern University (Chicago, USA). Currently he leads the Movement Neuromechanics group of the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Milano-Bicocca.

MAIN SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS

Cristiano Alessandro is interested in the relationship between musculoskeletal biomechanics and the neural control of movement. He employs a multidisciplinary approach that combines computational models with the analysis of experimental data acquired during movement execution (e.g. kinematics, kinetics, muscle activity). This research has wide applications in sport science, sport medicine and rehabilitation.

POSSIBLE PhD TOPICS
  • Alterations to neural control of movement following musculoskeletal injuries
  • Mechanisms of muscle coordination in healthy individuals
  • Movement biomechanics and muscle coordination during sport
