SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS

Study of the molecular mechanisms underlying the onset of Alzheimer’s disease, focusing on the role of the blood-brain barrier in the connection between stroke and the activation of neurodegeneration processes. In recent years, interest has expanded to the relationship between systemic inflammation and the integrity of the blood-brain barrier, with particular attention to the gut-brain axis and the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant role of phytocompounds.”

POSSIBLE PhD TOPICS

Functional connection between the gut and the brain: how the well-being of the gastrointestinal tract can help reducing systemic inflammation and influencing aging mechanisms. Study in gastrointestinal and blood-brain barrier cellular models the protective role of polyphenols.
