Associate Professor of Medical Genetics, School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Milano Bicocca, since 2020. I have been Director of the School of Specialization of Medical Genetics since 2021. Founder and Scientific Director of GBM-BI-TRACE (Glioblastoma Bicocca Translational Center), a research center focused on high-grade brain tumors (since 2023).
Education:
2008- PhD in Experimental Pathology and Neuropathology (University of Milan, Italy)
2004- Specialization cum Laude in Medical Genetics (University of Milan, Italy).
1999- Graduated in Biological Sciences (University of Milan, Italy).

MAIN RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research interests are mainly focused on two areas:

  • Cancer cyto-genomics, expecially in brain tumors. The research group is part of the DEPARTMENTAL STUDY CENTER GBM-BI-TRACE (GlioBlastoMa-BIcocca-TRAnslational-CEnter) and the main lines of research concern glioblastoma. We focus on isolating cancer stem cells from tumor biopsies and using them as an in vitro model to study the biological and molecular characteristics of this tumor. In particular, we are interested in extrachromosomal circular DNA (ecDNA) as a possible cause of the high intratumoral heterogeneity and resistance to radio- and chemotherapy in GBM.
  • Pediatric genomic disorders associated with dysmorphisms, congenital malformations, and neurodevelopmental delays. This research interest is conducted in collaboration with the medical genetics unit of the IRCCS San Gerardo.
