I am a neurologist and researcher with clinical and academic experience in the fields of epilepsy and vascular neurology. I currently hold the position of Tenure-Track Assistant Professor (RTDb) in Neurology at the School of Medicine and Surgery, University of Milano-Bicocca. Additionally, I serve as Head of the Adult Epilepsy Center at the Fondazione IRCCS San Gerardo dei Tintori in Monza, Italy.
My academic background includes a PhD in Neuroscience and a Specialty in Neurology, both awarded with highest honors (cum laude) from the University of Milano-Bicocca. I also completed a clinical fellowship in Epileptology at the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta in Milan and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Trials from University College London (UCL).
I have developed extensive clinical and research experience, with a particular focus on the management of epilepsy, emergency neurology, and cerebrovascular diseases. My expertise includes advanced clinical electroencephalography, cerebrovascular ultrasonography, and neurophysiological monitoring, alongside substantial involvement in translational research.
I have served as Principal Investigator and collaborator in numerous nationally and internationally funded research projects, focusing on epidemiological studies and innovative therapies in epilepsy and stroke. One of my key research interests is refractory status epilepticus following cardiac arrest, with particular emphasis on prognostication and the development of advanced treatment protocols.
I am an active member of several scientific societies, including the Italian League Against Epilepsy (LICE), the European Stroke Organisation (ESO), the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), and the Italian Society of Neurology (SIN). I also serve as an Advisor to the World Health Organization (WHO) on neurology and post-COVID sequelae.
SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS
My scientific interests focus on:
- the therapeutic modulation of collateral circulation in acute ischemic stroke
- the prognostication and management of refractory status epilepticus after cardiac arrest
- the diagnosis and treatment of autoimmune encephalitis
SUGGESTED TOPICS FOR PhD PROJECTS
- DOWN-SUITE clinical trial: Head down tilt 15° to increase collateral flow in acute ischemic stroke: a multicenter, randomised, proof of concept, phase 2a/b trial in patients treated with mechanical thrombectomy
- SUPER-CAT clinical trial: Dual Anti-glutamate Therapy in Super-refractory Status Epilepticus After Cardiac Arrest
- NEXT-CAT study: Neuron-specific enolase in status epilepticus versus generalized periodic discharges after cardiac arrest: different prognosis, different treatment
