I am a physician specialized in Psychiatry, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in Clinical Neuroscience at the University of Milano-Bicocca. I am actively involved in research within the field of psychiatry and have co-authored approximately 16 peer-reviewed publications and one book chapter, as reflected by my Scopus H-index of 8 (May 2025). My commitment extends to the broader scientific community through my role as a peer reviewer for indexed international journals.
My clinical training is currently focused at the Department of Mental Health and Addictions, “Bassini” Hospital in Cinisello Balsamo (February 2024 – January 2025). This follows my experience as a General Practitioner in Milan (November 2020 – January 2021). My academic journey includes an MD from the University of Milano (2014-2020), based on a scientific background from Liceo Scientifico Statale “L. Cremona” (2009-2014). My postgraduate studies at the University of Milano-Bicocca encompass both my Psychiatry specialization (January 2021 – January 2025) and my ongoing PhD in Clinical Neuroscience (February 2025 – Present).
Beyond my clinical and academic engagements, I have actively participated in the scientific community. I presented several posters in national and international congresses, and I was recognized as Best Presenter at the SIP Giovani conference in April 2023. My research contributions are further highlighted by my involvement as an investigator in several studies, including the DEEP READ, DISCARD, ReDREAM, NOMIAC, CAMPUS, and VESPA projects.
I am fluent in Italian (native) and English (C1 level), with intermediate proficiency in Spanish (B1) and basic knowledge of French (A2). My dedication to advancing the field of psychiatry is evident in my research activities, publications, and commitment to peer review, contributing to the ongoing dialogue and development within the scientific community.
PhD research project
Mapping Service Use and Social Determinants of Mental Health in Northern Italy: Towards Innovations of Care for Severe Mental Illness. The MIND-CARE study.
My project addresses the significant burden of Severe Mental Illnesses (SMIs), particularly schizophrenia spectrum disorders and bipolar disorder, and the critical influence of social, economic, and environmental factors on their prevalence and course. Recognizing the limitations of existing European epidemiological research being primarily based on Northern countries, this study aims to investigate the impact of individual- level and area-level social determinants on key mental health outcomes within the Lombardy region of Italy. The rationale stems from the current challenges faced by mental health services in identifying population needs and optimizing care pathways. The primary objective is to develop predictive models for SMI incidence, hospitalizations, readmissions, program adherence, and service use in Lombardy, integrating regional population data with socio-economic and demographic factors. This will involve a comprehensive review of social determinants, big-data analysis of factors impacting service use, and the implementation of predictive models using machine learning and deep learning approaches. The project will analyze data from a cohort of Lombardy residents aged 18-65 who accessed mental health services between 2010 and 2023 for non- affective, affective, and substance-induced psychoses. Record linkage will be used to extract sociodemographic, clinical, pharmacological, and contextual (municipality, service of reference) information. Statistical analyses and machine learning algorithms will be employed to identify relevant features and develop predictive models to ultimately inform local mental health service planning and resource allocation within the “PsyMaptic-LOM” project.
