Prof. Ferrarese has been involved in neuropharmacological research at NIH and Georgetown University. From 1987 he is Chief of the Laboratory of Neurobiology of the University of Milan, from 1999 at the University of Milano-Bicocca
MAIN SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Carlo Ferrarese leads neurobiological researches applied to neurodegenerative, neuroimmunologic, epileptic and cerebrovascular disorders. He studied the role of glutamatergic system in stroke and in neurodegenerative diseases and is presently leading translational research to investigate molecular mechanisms of cerebrovascular and neurodegenerative diseases (excitotoxicity, oxidative stress, protein misfolding and degradation) using peripheral ex vivo models from patients. He is also involved in international collaborations and networks to study genetic susceptibility to Parkinson Disease (GEO-PD, founded by the MJFF). Principal Investigator of several clinical trials mainly focused on disease modifying treatments in Alzheimer disease and neurodegenerative disorders with training for ICH-GCP within the last years. Spoke leader of the PNRR Project AGE-IT, founded by MUR in 2022.
POSSIBLE PhD PROJECT
